Stansell Electric, a specialty electrical contractor known for traffic signal and transportation infrastructure work, was struggling to reliably inform field crews whether job sites were safe to dig. Their process relied on a spreadsheet on a network drive and manual calls to 811, which led to communication breakdowns, VPN access problems, occasional utility strikes and safety and liability risks.

Using Viewpoint Vista and the Viewpoint Field Management portal, Stansell converted the spreadsheet into a user-defined form and an SSRS report accessible on mobile devices. Foremen can now pull up ticket numbers, notes, state site links and utility contacts by job number, giving crews confidence and documentation on site. The solution reduced utility incidents, improved safety and efficiency, sped office-to-field data sharing after moving to the cloud, and earned Stansell a Viewpoint Technology Award.
