Case Study: uShip achieves faster feature delivery and democratized on-call ownership with VictorOps

A VictorOps Case Study

Preview of the uShip Case Study

How uShip Built a Culture of Code Ownership for Faster Feature Delivery

uShip, an online shipping and freight marketplace operating in 19 countries, faced a loss of its early “everyone on-call” culture as the dev team grew to 60+, which centralized operations and lengthened Time to Identify and Time to Resolve incidents. Developers wanted ownership of their code but resisted traditional on-call burdens, so uShip turned to VictorOps for intelligent alerting, routing, and incident management to restore distributed ownership without burning out a few core operators.

VictorOps was implemented across teams using scheduling, overrides, routing keys and the Incident Automation Engine, plus a Victorbot Slack integration and developer-discounted accounts to onboard the whole engineering organization. The result was a democratized on-call process that spread load, reduced burnout, shortened time to identify and resolve incidents, and put developers back in ownership of their services—freeing uShip’s Ops team to focus on platform improvements and faster feature delivery.
