Thermo Fisher Scientific completes expansion in 8 weeks with Victaulic

Thermo Fisher Scientific, a biotechnology company, needed to rapidly expand a manufacturing plant to meet surging demand for COVID-19 sample collection tubes. The challenge was to complete a 120,000-square-foot facility renovation, a project that typically takes over a year, in just eight weeks. To achieve this compressed schedule, contractor Rand Construction used Victaulic Installation-Ready™ grooved piping technology.

Victaulic's grooved couplings and fittings, which have no loose parts and require only two bolts to install, allowed the team to design and install the piping system on the fly. Using this solution, they installed over 1,000 feet of carbon steel pipe in just two days. This efficient and safe installation method was instrumental in helping complete the entire project on its aggressive eight-week schedule, enabling Thermo Fisher to scale production from 50,000 to over 8 million viral transport media tubes weekly.
