Case Study: Ivanhoe Mine/Rio Tinto improves piping reliability and installation efficiency with Victaulic

A Victaulic Case Study

Ivanhoe Mine/Rio Tinto achieves up to 50% faster piping installation with Victaulic

Ivanhoe Mine/Rio Tinto required highly reliable process piping systems for their Oyu Tolgoi mine, one of the world's largest copper and gold deposits located in Mongolia's South Gobi Desert. The project's challenges included demanding environmental conditions, space constraints, and the need to manage thermal movement, all while ensuring high safety standards and minimal downtime. Victaulic's mechanical grooved piping solutions were selected to address these challenges.

Victaulic implemented its grooved coupling technology, including Style 77 and Style 07 for metallic pipe and Style 995 for HDPE, which eliminated the need for welding and hot work. This solution accommodated thermal expansion, simplified installation in tight spaces, and facilitated easier maintenance. The results were significant, with Victaulic's system helping to achieve up to 50% savings in installation time and cost while enhancing jobsite safety and ensuring system integrity for over 16 years of operation.
