ECMWF installs 8,600+ couplings with Victaulic for Bologna data centre

The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) needed to build a new data centre in Bologna, Italy, to cater to its increased data processing needs. The challenge was to design and install a highly reliable and efficient cooling system for this mission-critical facility. Victaulic worked with the project's engineer, Studio TI, employing its Virtual Design & Construction services to create 3D models for the proposed piping system.

Victaulic's solution involved a prefabricated carbon steel piping system joined with its Installation-Ready technology, which allowed for installation up to seven times faster than traditional methods. This approach ensured a high level of reliability and quality control while eliminating the fire hazards associated with welding. For the ECMWF, Victaulic provided a scalable, safe, and easily installable system, resulting in the successful installation of over 8600 couplings, 2400 fittings, and 990 valves.
