Case Study: Brigham Young University Protects Special Collections with Victaulic Vortex Fire Suppression

A Victaulic Case Study

Brigham Young University protects 300,000 rare volumes with Victaulic

Brigham Young University needed a fire suppression system for its L. Tom Perry Special Collections library that would protect its irreplaceable historic texts and films without causing water or chemical damage during discharge. Victaulic, through its contractor, provided a solution using its Vortex™ Hybrid Fire Extinguishing System.

Victaulic's solution utilized a hybrid system that discharges a mixture of nitrogen and atomized water to suppress fires with nearly zero surface wetting. This approach safeguarded the delicate collections and kept oxygen levels safe for occupants. The results were so positive that BYU has since installed additional Victaulic Vortex™ systems in other sensitive campus areas, and the university benefited from significantly lower recharge costs and time compared to chemical systems.
