A Vicon Case Study

When It Comes to Security, a Historic Greek Orthodox School and Church Go High-Tech

The Greek American Institute (GAI), the oldest continuously run Greek Orthodox school in the U.S. located in the Bronx, needed an affordable, user-friendly upgrade to a limited, hard-to-search surveillance system that covered the school, adjacent church and community spaces. GAI engaged Vicon (with integrator ITsavvy) to modernize its security using Vicon cameras and the Valerus video management platform.

Vicon deployed roughly 35 cameras—including high-resolution and 360° units—and Valerus software, with ITsavvy configuring user-specific views, a web-based thin client and separate networking for cameras. The Vicon solution expanded coverage to corridors, gym, cafeteria and exterior areas, made recorded video easy to search and synchronize across multiple cameras, improved parent and administrator confidence, enabled incident investigations (resolving a gym dispute), and centralized monitoring for measurable safety and operational gains.
