Tamworth Borough Council needed to modernize its 77‑camera analogue CCTV system on a limited capital budget to improve image quality, reduce tape-based recording, enable rapid incident review, and allow live/recorded viewing from anywhere on the network. After evaluating multiple suppliers, Tamworth selected Vicon for its ability to deliver instant playback and a phased, network‑based solution that met the council’s operational and budgetary constraints.

Vicon implemented a staged upgrade using Vicon Kollector recorders with an external RAID5 array, added further Kollectors, deployed a ViconNet workstation, and installed SurveyorVFT IP PTZ domes (with wireless links) to supplement the existing 59 analogue and 18 IP cameras. The Vicon system delivers ten‑second instant playback, a Smart Search that scans hours of video in minutes, network access to live and recorded footage, and easy expansion — improving operator decision‑making and operational efficiency while keeping the upgrade affordable.
