A Vicon Case Study
The City of Spokane Valley faced the common but difficult task of keeping its new City Hall open and welcoming to the public while ensuring employee safety and easy administration by a very lean IT staff. To meet requirements for a single unified platform, Active Directory integration, flexible schedules and emergency lockdown capability, the city selected Vicon’s integrated Valerus video management system and VAX access control solution.
Vicon’s Valerus/VAX deployment (installed and configured by EVCO Sound & Electronics) delivered a browser‑based, single “pane of glass” interface that manages roughly 32 cameras, ties access control to Active Directory, integrates with the Bosch alarm, and supports automated and manual lockdowns, elevator and suite restrictions, and triple‑swipe suite locks. The result: City of Spokane Valley IT and security staff can administer systems remotely (even updating contractor badges on a weekend), installation time was reduced through PoE devices and door‑mounted modules, and employees report feeling safer while public spaces remain open and easily managed.
