Online Tools Simplify Specification and Design of City Hall’s Security Technology

Coffman Engineers was engaged to specify and engineer a unified security solution for a new City Hall, and project manager Ben Helms selected Vicon’s Valerus VMS and VAX Access Control. The team’s challenge was to design an integrated video and access-control system, specify all hardware, software and network requirements, clearly illustrate camera coverage, and accurately calculate bandwidth and storage for cameras ranging from 2MP to 12MP.

Coffman relied on Vicon’s A&E resources — including ARCAT SpecWizard, Revit/AutoCAD360 camera models, bandwidth/storage calculators and direct support from Vicon’s technical staff — to build and validate the design. The result was a system that met all of the city’s performance requirements with seamless Valerus–VAX integration, simplified spec generation and accurate sizing, reduced wiring complexity via VAX over‑the‑door controllers, and strong value through low licensing costs and integrated features.
