Case Study: Coastal Conservation League achieves high-quality live wildlife streaming and increased public engagement with Vicon's Cruiser PTZ camera

A Vicon Case Study

Preview of the Coastal Conservation League Case Study

Charleston Harbor’s Pelicam Uses Vicon’s Cruiser Camera with 20X Zoom to Bring Wildlife Up Close

The Coastal Conservation League needed a reliable way to observe and share high-resolution live video of pelicans and other coastal wildlife from an isolated sandbar with no power or wired internet, while surviving harsh weather and minimizing hardware. They partnered with Vicon and installer Mount Pleasant Radio to replace an inoperable camera with a Vicon SN673V-B Cruiser PTZ camera (20X optical zoom, 1080p) to support research, public outreach, and long-term remote operation.

Vicon’s Cruiser PTZ was deployed with solar panels, backup battery, point-to-point wireless transmission and local SD recording, streaming live to YouTube. The solution restored the Pelicam as a research tool and became the League’s top community engagement vehicle—generating 37,000 page views in 18 months and drawing up to about 2,000 concurrent viewers during major storms—while proving power-efficient and resilient in the field.
