Sussex Health Informatics Service (HIS), responsible for IT services across 11 health trusts in Sussex and more than 200 sites, needed better visibility as it upgraded its WAN to support critical imaging and healthcare applications. To address the challenge, HIS worked with VIAVI Solutions and used the Observer Performance Management Platform to monitor network performance and troubleshoot wired and wireless networks, VPNs, dial-ins, and security systems.

VIAVI Solutions’ Observer Platform, including features such as MultiHop Analysis, Expert Analysis, SNMP device management, and gigabit probes, helped Sussex HIS validate that existing 100 MB links were sufficient for the new image archiving system, avoiding unnecessary investment in gigabit WAN links. The platform also improved fault isolation across multiple organizations, reduced consultancy costs, and supported business cases for encryption and VoIP compliance, delivering immediate ROI and enabling more informed infrastructure planning.
