Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust minimizes downtime and speeds recovery with the Observer GigaStor™ retrospective network analyzer

Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust, serving a wide area of South West England with more than 4,000 staff and mission-critical healthcare services, needed better visibility into network problems after experiencing severe outages and slowdowns. The Trust worked with VIAVI Solutions and its Observer Performance Management Platform, including the GigaStor retrospective network analyzer, to troubleshoot a highly distributed network where root-cause analysis was difficult and time-consuming.

VIAVI Solutions’ Observer GigaStor gave the IT team packet-level, time-based visibility so they could rewind traffic, compare captures, and quickly isolate issues. The platform helped prove that abnormal SOPHOS-related traffic was consuming up to 33% to 50% of DNS traffic and enabled faster troubleshooting of outages and remote-site problems. As a result, Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust reduced downtime, sped recovery, and significantly improved network analysis compared with manual methods and Wireshark alone.
