Identifying External Interference at Co-Located Cell Sites

Southeast Asia Telecommunications Company was dealing with high dropped calls in a high-profile area, caused by poor uplink RSSI that pointed to external interference. After spending significant time troubleshooting with a competitor’s tool, the operator partnered with VIAVI Solutions to identify the root cause.

VIAVI Solutions used CellAdvisor with RFoCPRI and the AntennaAdvisor attachment to scan the rooftop site, isolate the interference source, and trace it to a nearby co-located operator’s antenna generating PIM. After the offending antenna was replaced, the noise floor increase disappeared and network-based LSMR reports confirmed that the high RSSI across all three sectors was eliminated.
