Identifying and Locating Interference with CellAdvisor

Tier 1 Service Provider was experiencing low, intermittent throughput at one eNodeB sector and could not identify the root cause, even after replacing the RRH and fiber. The ongoing performance issues were driving down service quality, and the operator needed a faster way to isolate the source of the interference.

VIAVI Solutions worked with the provider using CellAdvisor with RFoCPRI capabilities to verify sync, inspect and clean fiber, and analyze the RRH uplink spectrum from the ground. The tests showed an elevated uplink noise floor caused by external interference, and after 3 hours of driving and walk-testing, the team traced it to a misconfigured bi-directional amplifier about 1,000 meters from the base station, enabling quick remediation and reducing unnecessary tower work.
