A VFA Case Study
UMass Memorial Health Care, the largest health care system in Central and Western Massachusetts, needed a better way to manage a complex capital budget across construction, IT, and equipment projects. Its manual, spreadsheet-driven process was time-consuming, hard to track, and lacked strong controls over approvals and spending. VFA was selected, with VFA.spendManager used as the budget, approval, and requisition solution.
VFA implemented a centralized, web-based workflow that let UMass Memorial input data once, automate approvals, and connect purchase orders, accounts payable, and the general ledger. The result was stronger accountability, real-time reporting, and better visibility into committed, projected, and actual spend. UMass Memorial also gained faster decision support, workload tracking, and the ability to project year-end accruals and rollovers, with about 25 users active and plans to expand to more than 400 users.
