IHA Increases Pay Back on Capital Investments While Reducing Operating Costs

Interior Health, one of British Columbia’s health authorities, needed a defensible 10-year capital plan but lacked consistent facility condition data and a reliable way to prioritize maintenance, renewal, and life-safety projects. To solve this, Interior Health turned to VFA and its capital planning solution, including facility condition assessments, Web-based decision support software, and consulting.

VFA implemented detailed assessments and VFA.facility® to centralize condition data, costs, and analytics for prioritizing projects and building multi-year budgets. The results included Board approval for critical funding, more than $45 million in upgrades prioritized through the software, and improved tracking of facility condition and ROI-based planning. VFA also helped Interior Health bundle projects more efficiently, supporting an $8 million conservation initiative designed to pay back investment over 10 years through lower operating costs.
