Creating a “Facilities Blueprint” to Support Proactive Long-Term Planning

The Ottawa Hospital, a large 1,100-bed academic health sciences center with aging facilities across three campuses, needed a better way to understand building conditions and plan capital investments. With much of its infrastructure more than 60 years old and incomplete asset data limiting its capital planning, the hospital turned to VFA and its facilities assessment and planning solution.

VFA completed detailed facility condition assessments for all three campuses within five months and loaded the data into VFA.facility® software, giving the hospital a centralized view of portfolio condition and project priorities. As a result, The Ottawa Hospital created a facilities “blueprint” for long-term planning, improved capital and maintenance budgeting, and shifted to proactive management using measurable metrics like Facility and System Condition Indices and multi-year funding scenarios.
