Western Union partnered with Vesta to relaunch its international outbound telephone money transfer (TMT) service for U.S.-based customers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The challenge was to restore a channel that had been offline for more than four years while improving approval rates and reducing fraud.
Vesta extended its Payment Guarantee solution from Western Union’s domestic TMT channel to the international channel, enabling real-time transaction assessment with less customer friction. As a result, Western Union increased approval rates from the low 50% range to as high as 85%, revived the channel on a permanent basis, and eliminated chargeback costs, bringing the cost of fraud to zero.
