CoverHound - Customer Case Study

CoverHound, a digital insurance agency that helps consumers and businesses comparison-shop for coverage, faced the challenge of handling sensitive customer financial data while building an industry-first simultaneous multi-carrier purchase flow that requires only a single customer interaction. To minimize breach risk and PCI scope, CoverHound partnered with Very Good Security to pursue a Zero Data approach so client payment information never touches their servers.

Very Good Security vaulted arbitrary sensitive data and implemented a payment/data flow that enabled the one-click multi-carrier purchase while keeping financial information off CoverHound’s systems. The result: CoverHound avoided expensive PCI recertification — VGS was the only provider that met their needs and cost far less than recertifying (recertification would have been roughly twice VGS’s cost plus ~50% time from three senior engineers for three months each year) — and created a clear path to move more data into VGS and further de-scope agency operations from PCI.
