University of Southampton - Customer Case Study

The University of Southampton, a leading UK research university, needed a new data centre that could support high-performance computing and varied load profiles while keeping capital and operating costs—and energy use—under control. Vertiv was engaged early in the project and supplied three Liebert Trinergy UPS units (total 1,600 kVA) to meet the facility’s day‑one requirements and address those efficiency and reliability challenges.

Vertiv implemented the modular Liebert Trinergy UPS with an adaptive algorithm and Vertiv LIFE Services remote diagnostics, allowing capacity to be scaled as demand grows and ensuring optimal operating modes for maximum efficiency. As a result, the University reduced annual CO2 emissions by 160 tonnes, cut energy use by about 300 MWh per year, lowered total cost of ownership (with equipment listed on the ECA scheme), and achieved a future‑proof, highly reliable power infrastructure.
