Telefónica faced rising power consumption and increasing preventative and corrective maintenance costs at its Celta Trade Park data center in Funza, Colombia, and set a target to cut energy use and achieve a return on investment within three years. Vertiv was engaged to deliver an efficient cooling retrofit, specifying its patented Super Saver System—featuring a Liebert FB4075 ring-topology chiller with free-cooling capability, 12 handling units/CRAH updates, cold-aisle containment (Smart Aisle) and I‑COM controls—to meet Telefónica’s energy and climate commitments.

Vertiv implemented the Super Saver System by installing cold-aisle containment, recalibrating CRAH units, adding isolation valves and the Liebert chiller with coordinated I‑COM control to optimize fan speeds, water flow and compressor operation and enable free cooling. The project reduced cooling demand from 68 kW/h to 41 kW/h (about 40% energy savings), lowered maintenance expenses and delivered a return on investment in under three years.
