Shenandoah County Department of Emergency Communications - Customer Case Study

Shenandoah County Department of Emergency Communications, the public safety answering point for roughly 44,000 residents across 512 square miles, was relying on an aging UPS from the 1990s and began experiencing degrading backup performance and no proper maintenance bypass—putting life‑critical 911, radio and telecom systems at risk. To address this, the county engaged Vertiv (via local partner Liebert Virginia) to modernize its power protection using Liebert® eXM™ UPS equipment and related services.

Vertiv supplied a Liebert eXM 40 kVA/kW UPS with an Optimized Maintenance Bypass Cabinet, matching Battery Cabinet, an integrated Liebert Unity dual‑protocol communications card and LIFE™ Services remote monitoring. The upgrade delivered measurable improvements: increased system availability and uptime, dependable battery run time to ride out full outages (even when generators are delayed), enhanced generator synchronization, reduced chance of human error with improved UPS controls, and better local and remote monitoring and maintenance processes through Vertiv’s LIFE services and quarterly performance reporting.
