Placer County Unified School District of California, which serves K–12 students across more than 10 schools in California, needed to optimize an aging data center to free up room for a new conference area and offices. Vertiv was engaged to address the space and efficiency challenge using its SmartRow solution, a compact, fully integrated row-based data infrastructure.

Vertiv implemented SmartRow to condense the district’s footprint without major renovations—removing the original data center and raised floor, installing integrated fire suppression and perimeter cooling, and cutting the number of cabinets from 12 to 6. The upgrade included reliable UPS systems running at about 30% load, minimized downtime, reclaimed excess square footage for workspace, reduced operational costs, and delivered up to 27% lower energy consumption compared with conventional designs.
