A Vertiv Case Study
MTN Group, a South Africa–headquartered multinational mobile telecommunications company serving over 230 million subscribers, invested in the West Africa Cable System (WACS) to deliver ultra-high-capacity subsea connectivity (14.5 Tbit/s, 4 fiber pairs) and needed resilient, rapidly deployable cable landing station infrastructure in Lagos and Accra. MTN Group selected Vertiv as the modular cable landing station provider to supply energy centers and prefabricated equipment rooms, including NetSure® DC power and Liebert® climate systems, plus AC systems, battery backup, fire suppression and remote supervision.
Vertiv delivered two energy centers and five factory-built equipment rooms with pre-mounted subracks and supporting systems on time within a six-month timeframe, providing superb resiliency and corrosion-resistant construction for harsh marine conditions. Vertiv’s tailored, rapidly deployed solution enabled seamless commissioning of the WACS landing sites, supporting the 17,200 km system’s high-speed connectivity and MTN Group’s continental data ambitions.
