Fortune 500 ICT Provider Improves Data Center Cooling to Add Computing Capacity Without Physical Expansion

Fortune 500 India company, a Mumbai-based ICT provider with cloud services at its core, faced cooling capacity limits in a 5.7 MW data center—older thermal systems and rooftop condensers created heat-island effects, frequent CRAC trips, and a high PUE above 2.0 that prevented adding racks despite available space. The company engaged Vertiv to modernize cooling and containment using Vertiv™ Liebert® PDX units, Liebert® LVC V‑shaped condensers, and Vertiv™ SmartAisle™ cold‑aisle containment.

Vertiv implemented a phased, non‑disruptive retrofit deploying variable‑capacity Liebert PDX compressors, LVC condensers with EC fans, and SmartAisle containment. The upgrade eliminated condenser short‑cycling and CRAC trips, removed the need for seasonal water spraying, and matched cooling to rack load—allowing the customer to realize the full 5.7 MW IT capacity and improve mechanical PUE from above 2.0 to 1.25.
