Fail-Safe Management of Business-Critical and Large Scale Infrastructures

Rhenus Transport, a global logistics provider, faced the challenge of maintaining high availability for business‑critical IT systems that support real‑time planning across its contract, freight, port and public transport divisions. To avoid costly downtime and to manage a modern data center in Holzwickede that houses about 260 physical and 1,500 virtual servers, Rhenus needed a cost‑effective, multi‑client and scalable centralized management solution — which led them to deploy Vertiv’s Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) software.

Vertiv’s DCIM gave Rhenus centralized, graphical control of both central and decentralized assets (racks, cameras, IP‑telephony), barcode‑tracked connectivity and capacity planning, plus built‑in reporting for audits and ISO readiness. The self‑implemented solution reduced physical access needs, sped device supply and installation, shortened mean time to repair, saved consulting fees, and enabled rapid, company‑wide visibility and management of their ~260 physical/1,500 virtual server estate — benefits Rhenus now plans to extend across other European sites.
