Case Study: Cineca achieves significant energy savings, improved efficiency and availability with Vertiv (Liebert Trinergy Cube and LIFE Services)

Cineca, a not-for-profit interuniversity consortium and Italy’s largest data centre operator supporting supercomputing and research (including the Marconi system), needed to continually enhance its infrastructure to boost availability, reliability and energy efficiency while cutting environmental impact and management costs. To meet these challenges it has partnered with Vertiv, deploying Vertiv solutions such as Liebert XD, Liebert CRV and Liebert PDX air-conditioning units, Liebert HPC‑M chillers, a 400 kVA Liebert Trinergy™ Cube UPS and Vertiv™ LIFE™ Services remote monitoring.

Vertiv implemented the full package—precision cooling, chillers, a new-generation Liebert Trinergy Cube UPS and preventive Vertiv LIFE monitoring—updating Cineca’s power and thermal infrastructure in roughly three months. The result, according to Vertiv, is higher operational efficiency and agility, reduced TCO, lower energy consumption and CO2 emissions, around 98.5% UPS efficiency with hot scalability (3.4 MW single unit, up to 27 MW in parallel) and energy savings of several thousand euro per year, plus faster, proactive maintenance through Vertiv LIFE Services.
