A Vertiv Case Study
Chorus, New Zealand’s largest telecommunications infrastructure company, faced growing demand for low-latency, edge compute and disaster‑recovery capacity as broadband usage surged and the country rolled out 20,000 km of fibre for Ultra‑Fast Broadband to over 830,000 homes and businesses. To offer a quick-to-deploy, scalable collocation service at its more than 600 telephone exchanges and to mitigate risks from earthquakes and long-distance latency, Chorus engaged Vertiv to provide an edge data centre solution (Vertiv SmartAisle™).
Vertiv deployed a 16‑rack SmartAisle™ at the Mt. Eden exchange—complete with integrated cooling, UPS backup and Trellis™ monitoring—working with systems integrator Virtis. The implementation gave Chorus a turnkey, multi‑tenant, scalable collocation product that eliminated heavy upfront CAPEX for tenants, reduced latency by moving compute to the edge, and sped time‑to‑market (from concept to first tenant in under 11 months). Vertiv’s solution also scales down to SmartRow™ or SmartCabinet™ units for smaller sites, enabling Chorus to roll out the offering across its nationwide footprint.
