A Vertiv Case Study
Capgemini, a global IT service provider, faced increasing complexity as its data centers, locations and team of administrators grew—documentation and planning of some 5,200 components had been managed in brittle Excel/SharePoint lists that limited collaboration. To modernize remote control and DCIM, Capgemini adopted Avocent solutions from Vertiv, including the Avocent Data Center Planner, DSView 3 management software, KVM switches, console port servers and power distribution strips.
Vertiv implemented the Avocent Data Center Planner and DSView 3 together with remote management hardware to provide browser-based room/rack visualization, simultaneous multiuser access, modeling of planned changes, power control and out-of-band access. The solution now supports about 5,200 components, ~4,000 power ports, 40 KVMs, 36 console servers and 140 administrators across multiple sites, reduced on-site visits, improved capacity utilization and exportable, audit-ready documentation that earned praise during an ISO 20000 audit.
