A Vertiv Case Study
Cambridge University, a centuries‑old research institution with more than 200 server rooms across 120 departments, faced fragmented IT infrastructure, high operational costs and a target to consolidate facilities while cutting its carbon footprint and energy bills. To gain centralized control and standardize management across a heterogeneous vendor environment, Cambridge engaged Vertiv and selected its Trellis™ platform as the DCIM solution.
Vertiv implemented the Trellis™ platform to provide a single “pane of glass” for monitoring power, cooling and IT equipment, unify data from multiple vendors and deliver reporting to optimise usage and PUE. The platform has enabled the university to consolidate server rooms into a central data centre, improve visibility and control, and move toward its targets of a 30% reduction in carbon footprint and up to 40% lower IT energy costs — outcomes driven by Vertiv’s Trellis™ solution.
