BT Exact - Customer Case Study

BT Exact’s Cardiff data centre, with capacity for over 12,000 servers (about eight per rack and a mix of Unix and Windows systems), faced time-consuming troubleshooting and costly downtime due to tight physical security and the need to escort third-party engineers. To overcome these operational hurdles, BT Exact deployed Vertiv’s Avocent KVM solution—specifically the Avocent DSR2161 KVM over IP switch and Avocent DSView management software—to centralize server control and monitoring.

Vertiv’s Avocent solution provides secure remote and local access, user-authenticated customer access from a Network Operations Centre, and a local rack port for on-site work, enabling the Server Services team to support over 400 servers remotely at the Cardiff site. As a result, Vertiv’s technology reduced the need for physical entry, sped up troubleshooting, improved uptime and operational focus, and increased customer confidence by ensuring engineers can access only their own servers.
