A Vertiv Case Study
Bay Area Internet Solutions (BAIS), a Silicon Valley co-location and managed hosting provider, needed a Tier IV “green” data center that could deliver 99.999% availability, support very high rack densities (up to 300 W per sq. ft.), and minimize energy use while providing full, real‑time equipment monitoring. To meet these requirements BAIS partnered with Vertiv, leveraging Vertiv’s Liebert and Knurr product lines and integrated power, cooling and monitoring services.
Vertiv deployed an integrated solution—Knurr cold aisle containment and 47U Knurr racks, Liebert CW CRAC units with variable‑speed EC plug fans, six 300 kVA Liebert PPCs with TP‑1 transformers feeding Liebert FDC cabinets, and Liebert SiteScan monitoring—to deliver scalable, redundant N+1 power and optimized cooling. The result: support for up to 300 W/sq. ft., up to 30% improved cooling efficiency, a PUE of 1.4, 99.999% availability, transformer efficiency up to 98.7%, and an estimated savings of about four million kWh per year (qualifying BAIS for the maximum Silicon Valley Power efficiency grant).
