ivi, Russia’s largest online streaming service with over 48 million monthly unique visitors and a catalogue of 65,000+ titles, needed to better understand what content and ads viewers wanted across devices. Their PostgreSQL-based data warehouse suffered from poor performance, low analyst productivity and inflexibility, preventing timely insights and accurate reporting for advertisers and copyright holders—so they sought a modern, high-performance analytics platform with fast load times and reasonable cost.

After piloting and benchmarking solutions, ivi deployed Vertica on commodity servers and integrated it with Tableau, migrating from the Community Edition to a production cluster and planning expansion to five nodes. The switch delivered dramatically faster queries and more flexible raw-data analysis, enabled richer reporting for about 150 daily users and a fourfold increase in staff relying on analytics, improved accuracy of payments to partners, and positioned ivi to use in-database ML and scale analytics as their data grows.
