Symphony Advanced Media, a large professional services firm, collects single-source consumer behavior across multimedia from a representative panel and ingests usage data 24/7 from smartphones, web and TV. Their challenge was to run continuous analytics for use cases like behavior, customer, loyalty, predictive and campaign management while supporting heavy concurrent reporting and avoiding the high costs they found in alternatives like Redshift and Oracle.

They deployed a 3-node Vertica cluster for high availability and load balancing, integrated with Hadoop, Talend and BI tools (Spotfire, Microstrategy, Qlik) to enable simultaneous loading and querying. The result was massive scalability on commodity hardware, superior compression, high concurrency and in-database analytics, delivering a 51–100% improvement in query performance and a 1–25% reduction in TCO.
