Migration to Vertica delivers accelerated operational decision making based on business intelligence

Lamoda, part of Global Fashion Group, is a leading online fashion retailer with three million items and more than 1.5 million visits per day across Russia and neighboring markets. Its omni-channel operations (call centers, distribution hub and delivery to 600+ cities) generated rapidly growing BI needs that outpaced the cost and performance of the legacy data warehouse—complex queries regularly took minutes or hours, preventing timely, data-driven decisions.

Lamoda chose a staged migration, keeping raw clickstream data in Hadoop and the detailed layer in the legacy warehouse while moving data marts to the Vertica Analytics Platform. After testing Vertica Community Edition and deploying the enterprise platform, optimized ETL feeds and integration with SAP BusinessObjects and Tableau accelerated analytics by an order of magnitude; today over half of sales reports run on Vertica, about 150 users rely on its data marts, administration costs are minimal, and the company is expanding Vertica use for marketing, logistics and predictive analytics.
