Avito, Russia’s leading classifieds marketplace, needed to capture and monetize massive, fast-moving data from 26 systems — including a clickstream of nearly one billion events per day — but legacy tools like PostgreSQL and Excel couldn’t handle the volume or complexity. After forming a Business Intelligence unit in 2013, the company set out to build a scalable analytics platform to support pricing, advertising, moderation and product decisions.

Avito implemented a Vertica-based BI platform with MongoDB for clickstream caching, deploying and expanding the cluster in-house to meet growing demand (from an initial 3 Vertica servers to 14 with plans to double). The system centralized analytics, accelerated A/B testing and feature release cadence, enabled pricing and ad optimization, automated moderation and investor reporting, and turned data into a revenue-generating asset while democratizing access across the organization.
