Auckland Transport, the public agency managing roads, traffic networks and public transit for Auckland, New Zealand, faced fragmented systems after a merger and relied on older CCTV feeds for reactive investigations. The agency needed to upgrade its city-wide surveillance, converge disparate camera data, and deploy an on-premises big data analytics platform to deliver fast, real-time insights to stakeholders—from police and emergency services to transit operators and planners.

Auckland Transport implemented Micro Focus IDOL video analytics (with HPE infrastructure), including Intelligent Scene Analysis and Automatic Number Plate Recognition, to process massive streaming video volumes. About 200 analytic schemes run in real time, integrating with incident management and analytics platforms to detect violations, congestion and hot spots, improve ticketing and planning insights, and cut batch processing from 4.5+ hours to about 2 hours—helping protect roughly 1.4 million citizens and enabling faster, data-driven operations.
