A Vertica Case Study
LOCKON, a leading Japanese ad-tech and market analysis company, launched Audience EBiS to measure and evaluate multi-touch customer exposure and shift marketing from ready-to-buy to potential-customer nurturing. The challenge was to perform people-based customer-journey analysis and real-time ad-hoc queries on massive datasets—up to 10 billion measured events per year—which conventional relational databases couldn’t handle at the needed speed or scale.
LOCKON implemented the Vertica Analytics Platform (columnar, MPP) on x86 servers to enable high-speed, low-I/O analysis and online scale-out without downtime. The platform delivered ad-hoc analysis across billions of records, scaled from 3 to 10 nodes (roughly 2x performance at 5 nodes and 3.5x at 10), supported Customer Profile and Journey Analysis features, exceeded appliance-style solutions on ROI and scalability, and paved the way for future machine-learning–driven recommendations.
