Security Industry Authority migrates 220 million files with Version 1 in 8 months

The Security Industry Authority (SIA), the UK regulator for the private security industry, faced the challenge of migrating its critical online licensing system, STeP, to a new supplier within a tight timeframe. This complex project involved ensuring the integrity of over 228 million records, managing integrations with over fifteen third parties, and achieving full Home Office accreditation, all with absolutely no disruption to its day-to-day operations. The SIA selected Version 1 to deliver this major digital services contract using a Microsoft Azure-based solution.

Version 1 successfully re-built and migrated the entire STeP application to Azure, completing the project within the 8-month deadline. The vendor migrated 11TB comprising 220 million files and 2TB of SQL databases with no operational disruption. This new platform allows the SIA to leverage modern cloud capabilities to optimize costs and more easily adopt new technologies, while Version 1's rigorous approach to testing and risk mitigation ensured a successful go-live that was commended by the customer.
