Case Study: NEL transforms NHS data access with Azure migration from Version 1

NEL migrates shared datasets to Azure with Version 1 for 16 million people

NEL, a healthcare organization supporting the NHS, faced significant challenges with its aging and cumbersome data processes. Managing data for a population of 16 million, its methods were costly, inflexible, and threatened data accuracy as information was pushed thousands of times to multiple databases. This made data out of date for end-users and maintenance very difficult. NEL engaged vendor Version 1 to migrate shared datasets to Microsoft Azure.

Version 1 implemented the data migration by refactoring SQL and moving the datasets to Azure, creating a single point of access. The project was run using Agile methodology, which was new to NEL. The results provided a secure, transparent, and accurate data source, allowing multiple NHS sites to access real-time data simultaneously. This enables caregivers to adopt a more preventative strategy, identifying trends to improve patient outcomes.
