A Vero Software Case Study
PECO, a leading designer and manufacturer of model railway track and accessories supplying around 450 UK shops and exporting to 30+ countries, faced extreme micro-scale challenges: mould-making tolerances tighter than many automotive applications (often 5–20 microns) and frequent design changes that caused regeneration failures and production delays. Ensuring metal inserts sit precisely to avoid flash and meet demanding detail for small “N” gauge parts made reliable, fast tool design critical.
PECO adopted Vero’s VISI suite (Modelling, Mould, Electrode, Machining), importing CAD data, merging with tool templates, creating cavities/ejectors, extracting fine electrodes and exporting STL for laser ablation, while running concurrent CAM calculations on multiple processors. The result was a 30% cut in design time, smoother CNC/electrode manufacture, elimination of history-related failures, and more reliable, faster toolroom production—making new moulds easier and more efficient to produce.
