A Vero Software Case Study
Scott Tools, a Berkshire-based specialist mould maker founded in 2008, partnered with global toolmaker ROTHENBERGER to develop Plasticut, a novel no-moving-parts pipe cutter. The challenge was to convert the unique design into robust, accurately moulded parts across multiple sizes—where small blade-angle errors cause poor cuts—while meeting short lead times and supporting small-team production.
Scott Tools implemented Vero Software’s VISI Modelling/VISI Mould and machining STRATEGIST to unify 3D modelling, prototyping, mould design and NC toolpaths. The integrated workflow produced automatic 2D drawings, simplified electrode extraction, and high-speed machining for faster, higher-quality manufacture: one designer now feeds 6–8 toolmakers, feedrates were increased on their VMCs, over 26 components were developed in six months, and the Plasticut is commercially produced in multiple sizes with moulded safety inserts.
