Rutland Plastics - Customer Case Study

Rutland Plastics, a leading UK injection-moulding specialist for engineering and industrial sectors, needed to validate a large HDPE electrofusion pipe coupling before committing to tooling and to automate a manual pin‑insertion step that required two operators. Preventing costly tool changes and reducing assembly labour were essential to remain competitive.

Using VISI across CAD, mesh, CAM and Flow modules and an Objet Connex 350 3D printer, Rutland produced a fit‑for‑purpose prototype, designed and simulated the two‑cavity P20 mould (optimising gates and vents), and created an animated jig to automate pin insertion. The solution validated the part before toolmaking, enabled efficient electrode and wire‑EDM programming, and halved shop‑floor manpower for assembly while speeding production and expanding their 3D‑printing/prototyping capabilities.
