A Vero Software Case Study
Kirklees College’s School of Engineering, one of the largest in the UK, upgraded its £7.5m purpose-built facilities and new CNC machinery — including a Hurco 5-axis mill — but faced a skills gap: apprentices and students needed up-to-date 5-axis CAD/CAM training to meet local manufacturers’ demands. Replacing legacy PEPS software required a major rewrite of syllabuses and a substantial investment to keep the college at the forefront of regional engineering education.
The college installed 35 seats of VISI (modelling and 2D/3D/5-axis machining) and Edgecam, integrating them across apprenticeships, degree courses and evening classes so students progress from manual machining to full CAD-to-CAM workflows and CNC program download. The result is stronger machining and programming skills, closer industry links (including companies using the college for training) and a seamless single-package solution that helps local manufacturers remain competitive.
