Gear Barrel Partnership for Seco and Edgecam

Oxford Brookes Racing, the university’s award‑winning Formula Student team, needed a precision sequential gearbox shifter barrel for its race car. The complex geometry and tight tolerances meant the part had to be right first time to avoid costly rework and keep the student project on schedule.

Seco Tools worked with Edgecam to specify tooling, generate efficient toolpaths and run full simulations, then proved the program on a 5‑axis machining center. The collaborative process — including targeted Edgecam training and NC/post‑processor tweaks — delivered the component reliably, allowed all issues to be found before cutting metal, simplified development and gave the team confidence in the finished part.
