Edgecam Slashes Jaguar Cylinder Head Porting Time

Crosthwaite And Gardiner is a UK specialist manufacturer of historic racing‑car engines and components with 40 years’ experience. They faced a major machining challenge: Jaguar cylinder heads have very deep, highly curved ports that require 5‑axis lollipop cutters and machining from both sides, and their previous CAM workflow demanded time‑consuming manual surface picking and spline construction.

Installing Edgecam 2015 R2’s port‑machining module — with single‑path roughing and finishing, midpoint control and automatic spline generation from SolidWorks — greatly simplified programming and setup. Cycle time per head dropped from 12 to under 9 hours (enabling two heads a day and unmanned runs), batches of eight heads now save four days, and accuracy, surface finish and tool‑control were significantly improved.
