Edgecam Bridges the Skills Gap for WFEL

WFEL, the world leader in tactical military and disaster‑relief bridges based in Heaton Chapel, UK, employs 230 people and has supplied over 500 Medium Girder Bridge systems to more than 40 armed forces. As experienced engineers retire and traditional side‑and‑face milling skills disappear, WFEL faced a challenge producing complex deep‑pocket components on modern CNC equipment while maintaining speed and precision.

WFEL upgraded to Edgecam’s full 3D package with Part Modeler and invested in CNC machines (including a Matsuura horizontal twin‑pallet) to replace conventional kit. Edgecam’s 3D toolpaths and model associativity sped programming, improved accuracy, and closed the skills gap—delivering time and cost savings and enabling a planned transition to full 3‑axis CNC production for high‑precision bridge components.
