Central Lakes College of Minnesota uses Edgecam in its machine-tool technologies program to shape new generations of programmers

Central Lakes College, a Minnesota community and technical college, trains students in its machine‑tool technologies program to become real‑world machinists, programmers and operators. The challenge was teaching practical problem‑solving and CAM programming—including reverse engineering, CAD import and toolpath strategy—so students can understand full machine setups, avoid costly mistakes and learn how to make parts efficiently.

Since 2008 the college has used Edgecam’s CAM and full‑machine simulation to let students program the school’s CNC mills and lathes, preview setups, and practice cycle optimization in a safe environment. The result is students with stronger process thinking and toolpath management skills, reduced trial‑and‑error on machines, and graduates better prepared to improve cycle times, lower costs and meet employer needs.
