A Vero Software Case Study
Kent-based Setyard, a specialist in set building, furniture and props, partnered with designer Simon Taylor to turn his BA final project—the Randonneur Chair—into a production-ready piece. The challenge was converting a full-scale round-bar prototype into accurate, repeatable CNC geometry and assembly jigs so the handcrafted design (tubular steel, hardwood and leather) could move from one-off prototype to commercial manufacture.
They used Alphacam to plot prototype points, draw and tool the ski-rockers, and offset geometries for different tube diameters, then cut Sapele hardwood on a Wadkin UX CNC and plasma-cut the steel backbone for precise jigs and assembly. The finished chair was exhibited in London, chosen for the Tour of Britain Time Trial “Hot Seat” (used by winner Dylan van Baarle), and led Andy McDonald and Simon Taylor to form Two Makers to manufacture the design commercially—demonstrating faster, simpler production workflows thanks to Alphacam.
